• SUNRISE ORCHARD APARTMENTS SERVICE PLAN

    Tejano Center is proposing to develop its 5300 Sunrise property to provide permanent supportive housing for homeless young adults, including youth aging out of foster care. The development will include 52 one and two bedroom apartments for young adults, ages

    18-25 years, and will utilize a housing first model tailored to meet the needs of young adults. On site staff will include a full-time Property Manager, a full-time Assistant manager/Activity Coordinator, two Case Managers, and Maintenance Staff. Both Case Managers will be located on site to engage residents and work towards independence and self-sufficiency. Work schedules of all staff will be arranged so as to allow for maximum tenant access to services and support.

    Case Managers will work with residents to provide linkages with life skills training, job and vocational skills training, educational opportunities, child care, health care, mental health, parenting classes and other support services to encourage positive development. Plans continue for the providing of these services on-site. Tejano Center has initiated partnerships with agencies such as the Salvation Army, DePelchin, Baylor College of Medicine, Legacy Community Health, and SER Jobs for Progress to provide services. All units will have project based voucher assistance and rents will restricted to 60% AMI to ensure affordability and will include basic utilities.

    The 5300 Sunrise location is ideal for this type of housing because of its easy access to transportation, services, and groceries. Within a few blocks, residents would be able to access MHMRA, YMCA, Fiesta, Harris Health System, Neighborhood Centers, Inc. Park at Palm Center, the OST South Union Community Garden and Farmers Market, and much more. Additionally, with the construction of the METRO Southeast Purple Line, a substantial amount of new investment is occurring in the community.
