Legacy: A soft skills class for multi-generation groups of 10. Students will learn how to engage others in conversation, familiarize themselves with common etiquette practices, as well as conflict resolution, and create personal goals, which prepare them for success in the workforce.
Pursue: The salary for one financial education instructor whose guidance will create a ripple effect, positively influencing future generations. By imparting financial literacy, this initiative equips individuals with tools for economic empowerment, breaking the cycle of financial instability and fostering a more prosperous and informed community for years to come.
Thrive: Assist in the creation of a digital library and support intergenerational classes that will dismantle digital inequity, allow our senior citizens to establish a sense of connection, and build empathy amongst our youth.

Mariela, estudiante de ESL en Lone Star College. Inscrita en el Programa de Jóvenes Adultos Aspirantes (AYA) de GRADcafé. Su asesora de GRADcafé es Rosalina.
Yo llegué a este país hace 5 años y desde entonces dejé de estudiar, vengo de Mexico y allá estaba estudiando una Ingeniería entonces quería retomar aquí mis estudios, buscando información conocí este programa, AYA, en el cual me ayudaron a buscar becas y escuelas donde pudiera seguir. Estoy estudiando ESL en Lone Star College después quiero entrar a un Associate en Contaduría.
Este programa ah impactado de una gran manera porque me motivaron y dieron las herramientas para retomar mis estudios lo cual era muy complicado para mi en este país, ya que no tenía conocimiento de muchas cosas que se necesitan para entrar a una Universidad. Ahora tengo metas más claras y me siento más confiada en que voy a concretarlas.

Marcie, an adult learner enrolled in the Phlebotomy Certification program at Lee College, Baytown.
Marcie is an adult learner who came into GRADcafé Baytown seeking assistance with her FAFSA application because she wanted to start a phlebotomy certification program at Lee College. She was interested in going back to school after having to put her higher education plans on hold due to getting pregnant with her first child. She was finally about to get back on track and decided that she needed her FAFSA completed to start her certification in 2023. She then came back a week later seeking assistance because she was not working at the time and needed to figure out how to pay for her class materials. We were able to recommend her to WorkForce Solutions where we hope she was able to find assistance. She will be starting her phlebotomy certification program in early 2023. (Currently enrolled).
Marcie spoke on the services she received from us, “It was very helpful, and I enjoyed the services I received. I would definitely recommend y’all to anyone that needs help with college and career exploration.” – Marcie

Keynote Speaker
Tejano Center is proud to announce the keynote speaker of our 5th Annual State of the Center Luncheon, Dr. Ruth López Turley.
Dr. Ruth López Turley directs the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University, which brings together data, research, engagement and action to improve lives. She is the founder of Houston Education Research Consortium (HERC), a research-practice partnership between Rice University and 11 Houston area school districts, representing over 700,000 students. As well as founding the National Network of Education Research-Practice Partnerships, which connects and supports over 60 partnerships between research institutions and education agencies throughout the country. In 2022, President Joe Biden appointed her to the National Board for Education Sciences, which advises and approves priorities for the research arm of the U.S. Department of Education. She is a graduate of Stanford and Harvard and is originally from Laredo, Texas.
